For their project we set out to create a website, Facebook page and set-up a way for them to sell their products via PayPal and as digital downloads. The site is designed to help teacher connect with the concept that teaching history can be fun by providing examples of the lesson plans and the activity within the lesson plan.

We also took their lesson plan books and turned them into PDFs on CDs that they could ship and broke these lesson books into individual lesson plans that could be purchased and downloaded immediately from the site. Our Google AdWords keyword tool shows us that there is low competition for the keywords pertaining to their product and 33,400 monthly searches for their keywords. Imagine the possibilities for sales conversions.

The stories are so incredible. Several people that I work with tell me that they come to me for answers because I exhibit a quality that Gladwell describes in the book as a Maven. These are people who help us connect with new information or information specialists. In the past few years, I moved to a small town where there is no newspaper or source for information for our community. I think many small towns are struggling with this same problem as the internet has forced ad dollars online and left local newspapers without the income to produce a product.

In conjunction with a recent article about the reinvention of the local Chamber of Commerce and being motivated by Gary Vaynerchuk‘s book Crush It. What I get out of taking these problems and ideas is an opportunity for the local church to get involved in helping their community grow which in turn will help them connect with current community leaders, help attract new people into their sphere of influence and help get them out of their box as they go into their community discover what is happening and potentially how they could get involved.

So building upon this idea I went out and purchased the domain http://harrahnews.org and started building a platform as a model that others could look at and follow. Here are a few of the things that I was able to collect into this space:

  • School Sports Info
  • A Calendar of Community Events
  • Reviews of Local Dining
  • A Place for Locals to Write Entertainment Reviews

In the Information Age how can you create a hyper-local source of news for a community without a source? How can creating this space benefit your business or non-profit?

Upon working with Harrah Early Learning Center we sat down to set goals that would help them attract new business, develop a new brand identity to work from and identify systems that would help them communicate more efficiently with their parents. We have worked on many projects for Harrah Church including developing Communications Guidelines, developing a Social Media Strategy, educating their volunteers to use Social Media platforms for ministry (Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare), created their website(s) (Harrah Church, HarrahKIDS, Renovate Students), setup an RSS-to-Email campaign to schedule new material from their sites to go to their congregation the following day, and served as the Champion as they transitioned to a new Church Management System.

OPCC has witnessed a little prairie town grown into one of the most advanced cities in the Midwest. This project coincided with the church launching into new directions. We created a new logo, branding guidelines, a new website, developed a RSS-to-Email campaign to push website updates to the congregation and helped implement a Social Media Strategy.
